It Is Noble Work You're Doing

Take heart, brave troll. Without your efforts, strangers on the internet might exchange information, learn from one another, and leave a conversation feeling marginally more human.

Thankfully, you are there to stop this dangerous outcome. You show up to make every thread longer, colder, and dumber. You convert curiosity into cynicism, disagreement into spectacle, and communities into places people quietly leave.

Some will fail to appreciate your efforts. They may claim that trolling drives away thoughtful people, rewards dishonesty, and trains communities to expect every conversation to turn rancid. They may argue that it corrodes trust and turns attention into a demolition derby. This sort of negativity is to be expected.

But still, what persistence. What dedication. What tireless devotion to making communication worse for absolutely everyone, including yourself.

Trolling always wishes to be mistaken for strength. In practice, it is mostly a method for avoiding the burden of being thoughtful. It does not build. It interrupts. It does not persuade. It lingers.

So if you recognize yourself in these pages, congratulations. You have located the problem. The next move is to log off, rethink your life choices, and try contributing something that does not require everyone else to become worse just because you arrived.
